After the acne — the marks

Laser skin resurfacing for post-acne marks.

Your breakouts cleared, but the flat brown or tan spots they left behind didn't. Those are post-acne marks — and they're one of the most treatable things acne leaves behind.

Know what you have

PIH vs. PIE vs. scarring.

Three different things, often confused:

  • PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) — flat brown/tan marks; excess pigment. The surface is intact.
  • PIE (post-inflammatory erythema) — flat red/pink marks; lingering vascular response, common in lighter skin.
  • Scarring — a textured change (depressed or raised), not just color.
Why it lingers

Why PIH doesn't always fade on its own.

Some marks fade with time and diligent sun protection; many linger for months or longer, especially in deeper skin tones, and sun exposure can make them stick around.

How it fades

How resurfacing fades PIH.

Laser resurfacing prompts controlled surface renewal and collagen support, helping excess pigment break up and even out over a series of sessions.

Our stance

Why we don't push aggressive bleaching.

Harsh bleaching products and DIY acid treatments can irritate skin and, ironically, worsen pigment — especially in darker tones. We favor a controlled, clinician-guided approach over anything aggressive.

Every skin tone

Skin-tone considerations.

We treat all skin tones (all Fitzpatrick types). Darker skin tones require specific protocols and settings to fade pigment without triggering more — which is exactly why this should be done by a clinician who’ll tailor it, not guessed at over the counter.
