Getting ready, and recovering well

AviClear® pre & post-care.

A little preparation makes your AviClear® session smoother and your skin happier afterward. None of it is complicated — but a few things matter, especially what to pause beforehand. Here's everything you need, before and after. If your provider gives you instructions that differ from this page, follow theirs — they're looking at your skin.

48 hours before your session

Set a few things down first.

Easing off a few actives beforehand leaves your skin calmer and lowers the chance of irritation during treatment.

Pause these — about 48 hours before
  • Retinoids / retinol
  • Exfoliating acids (AHA / BHA — glycolic, salicylic, lactic)
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Physical scrubs and aggressive exfoliation
Do this
  • Keep skin hydrated and your barrier calm
  • Avoid sunburn and heavy sun exposure beforehand
  • Arrive with clean skin if you can — or we’ll cleanse it for you
Bring / have ready
  • A list of your current products and medications
  • Sunscreen for afterward
  • Any questions — there’s no such thing as a silly one
Timing varies
48 hours is typical for AviClear®, but always confirm the exact pause window against your own protocol — your provider will tell you what is right for your skin.
The first 48 hours

What to expect.

Come with clean skin and, ideally, no makeup on the treatment area — we can remove it if needed. Wear something comfortable. Plan for the appointment itself plus a few minutes to settle in and review anything with your provider.

There’s typically no need to arrange a ride or take time off — most patients return to their day right after.

  • Cool it if it feels warm — a clean, cool compress is fine
  • Sunscreen, every day — non-negotiable, and ongoing
  • Skip the actives — no retinoids, acids, or benzoyl peroxide yet
  • Cleanse gently with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water
  • Hands off — let your skin do its thing
  • Hold off on heavy workouts, saunas, and very hot showers for the first day if your provider advises
The first two weeks

What's normal — and what's not.

Normal
  • Mild redness or warmth that fades
  • Skin feeling slightly more sensitive at first
  • Breakouts not changing immediately — results are gradual
Reintroduce slowly
  • Most patients can ease actives back in after the first 48 hours, as their provider directs — start low and slow
Call us if you notice
  • Redness, swelling, or discomfort that worsens instead of settling
  • Blistering, open areas, signs of infection, or anything that worries you

Your long-term regimen

Between and after sessions.

Day to day, AviClear® patients do best with a simple, barrier-friendly routine: gentle cleanser, moisturizer, daily SPF, and whatever targeted or prescription step your provider has set. The goal is consistency, not a shelf full of products — and keeping paused actives paused around each session.
